John Lane is the force behind Airpower
Unlimited in Jerome, Idaho. John is no stranger to
the business
of warbird restoration. He is the former Director of Maintenance
and Restoration at the famous
Champlin
Fighter Museum in Mesa Arizona. In addition to his skills as
a restoration specialists John is a gift pilot who has had the
privilege to fly most of the World War Two fighters. John's
interest in warbirds stems from his dad John Lane Sr. who was a
six victory P-38 ace in the Southwest Pacific during World War
Two.
Moving to Jerome in
1988, John and his wife Nancy opened Airpower Unlimited. Their
first major project was a Vought/Goodyear
FG-1D Corsair that had
been recovered from Lak
e
Washington. This aircraft underwent an exacting authentic three
year restoration to flyable condition, although it would not be
flown. Now on display in the
Museum of Flight in Seattle, this
aircraft is a testament to the excellent work performed by
John's
team.
Airpower is nearing
the completion of a ten year restoration of another FG-1D for a
private owner in Michigan.
This Corsair came
from the fabled David Tallichet collection and appeared in the
1970s television series Baa Baa Black Sheep.

Airpower has
completed several other fantastic aircraft projects, including the
1996 EAA Grand Champion Warbird Grumman
TBM-3 Avenger for Danny
Summers.
