1983

Seattle's Museum of Flight |
FG-1D Corsair
was built in April 1945 and served aboard the USS
Intrepid. After the war, it was transferred to the Naval
Reserve, eventually being stationed at Naval Air Station
Sand Point, in Seattle, Washington in 1950. That July,
Commander Ralph Milleson "ditched" the Corsair in Lake
Washington following a non-fatal midair collision with
another Corsair. Milleson's aircraft was recovered from the
lake in 1983 and restored.
